2009-10 Baldwin County Public Schools Registration Information.

All 45 Baldwin County Public Schools have announced 2009-10 registration details. Additional back-to-school information can be found at each school’s web site. In addition, a helpful source of registration information can also be found at www.bcbe.org/newcomer. The first day of school for students is Aug. 10. Teachers, however, report to school on Aug. 5.

School administrators stress that parents and guardians must bring all necessary documents to the school office for each child they wish to enroll. The counselor or the registrar at each school is responsible for student enrollment. All students, whether new to the school system or previously enrolled, are required to take part in any pre-registration activities the school may offer.

The Baldwin County Board of Education requires that you bring the following documents with you for each child you wish to enroll: 1. Birth certificate, 2. Social Security card, 3. Two proofs of residence. (One of these must be a recent utility bill with your Baldwin County address.) 4. Withdrawal papers from last school attended, including transcript. 5. Immunization form. All students are required by Alabama law to have an original certificate of immunization (IMM-50); copies are unacceptable.  These certificates may be obtained from your local physician or Baldwin County Health Department in Robertsdale, which can be reached at (251) 947-1910. You will be required to complete an enrollment form for each student. These will be made available by the registrar or counselor when you visit the school and a copy of this form is provided at www.bcbe.org

BALDWIN COUNTY SCHOOLS HAVE “WHAT PARENTS WANT”

From the State Department of Education

MONTGOMERY-For the tenth straight year, Baldwin County was included in the 25 Alabama public school systems nationally recognized with the "What Parents Want" Award from SchoolMatch®. The national survey is in its 18th year, and the awards are presented to only 2,436 of America's 15,571 public school districts. It is awarded to schools that make noteworthy strides to meet the needs of their communities, and Alabama also had 25 school systems make the list in 2008.

SchoolMatch®, the nation's largest school selection consulting firm, helps corporate employee families find schools that match the needs of their children. The majority of Alabama's recognized school systems have consistently received the "What Parents Want Award" for most of the last decade. The award, which originated in 1992, recognizes systems that meet standards of excellence in seven criteria:
· Competitive academic test scores
· Accreditation
· Recognition for excellence by a national foundation or the U.S. Department of Education
· Competitive teacher salaries
· Above (national) average instructional expenditures
· Above (national) average expenditures for library/media services
· Small class sizes

An April 1, search of the 22 field SchoolMatch® Database revealed that only 16 percent of the nation's public schools consistently provide "What Parents Want" in public education. The SchoolMatch® staff of school experts salutes those school districts that are meeting the needs and desires of both students and parents.

Corporations and consumers use SchoolMatch® when moving across town, upgrading residences, relocating to a new area, when negotiating child custody issues and for general information about schools.

School administrators use SchoolMatch® to focus on goals for school system improvement based upon the performance of other "mean matched" schools, a method of comparing their school system with those that have similar characteristics. SchoolMatch® has successfully conducted more than 1,000 Educational Effectiveness Audits of school systems throughout the country.

A collection of over 97,000 parent questionnaires completed by SchoolMatch® clients reveals that the seven items are the qualities parents most often look for in school systems. Only secondary schools are eligible for this distinction since parents usually try to find school systems that produce quality high school graduates. The systems were judged using auditable information gathered annually state-by-state from sources including county assessors, county auditors, state taxing authorities, and state departments of education.
